Using the trains
Cercanias The Cercanias are trains that connect the centre of Barcelona with the outer suburbs. They provide a good connection to the airport and are ideal for one-day-trips around Barcelona.
Regionales The Regionales cover the different provinces of Spain. Within the region of Catalonia there are a lot of trains and the prices are quite reasonable.
Grandes Lineas The Grandes Lineas are trains that connect major Spanish cities. They offer an inter-regional network and are more expensive than the Regionales. Nevertheless they offer direct connections between cities and are so are faster.

The best advice about driving a car in Barcelona is: don't do it. Parking is a major problem in the city and the Public Transport System is excellent.
